Long is the New Tall Oiio Reveals Proposal for the Worlds Longest Building New York

Tall Skyscrapers with soaring heights of more than 200m high are no longer a wonder. Burj Khalifa, the world’s current tallest skyscraper is more than 800m high, and the under construction Jeddah Tower is expected to hit the 1km benchmark in less than 5 years. Now, that ‘tall’ has become quite mainstream, ‘long’ might be the new hit.

Oiio Architecture Studio has proposed another skyscraper for the Billionaire’s Row, a Manhattan neighborhood which houses no less than 10 supertall skyscrapers. To achieve a unique status between these standing structures, Oiio’s proposed skyscraper “The Big Bend” will not just be tall, but it will bend at the peak and reach the ground once again to be the longest as well. The conceptual proposal features the habitable arch-like bend. With a total length of 4,000 feet (1,219.2m), the arching tower still surpasses all its neighboring skyscrapers in height.

Oiio believes that their proposed idea might be an effective solution to the high price per square foot rates for a high-rise building in New York. “If we manage to bend our structure instead of bending the zoning rules of New York we would be able to create one of the most prestigious buildings in Manhattan. The longest building in the world,” say the architects. “The Big Bend can become a modest architectural solution to the height limitations of Manhattan. We can now provide our structures with the measurements that will make them stand out without worrying about the limits of the sky.”
